2. What personal data we collect

Through the waitlist registration form we collect:

• Your first name
• Your email address
• Your city and country of residence
• Approximate number of books you own (selected from a dropdown)
• How you describe yourself as a reader (selected from a dropdown)
• Whether you are open to beta testing opportunities (checkbox)

Through the optional reader survey we collect:

• Reading frequency and habits
• How you currently track your reading
• How often you discuss books with others
• Whether you write notes about books as you read
• Your level of interest in connecting with matched readers
• What would make you trust a new app for readers
• Any free-text responses you choose to provide

The survey is entirely optional. If completed anonymously — without providing your name or email — the responses are not linked to any individual and cannot identify you.

3. Why we collect it and our legal basis

We collect and process your personal data on the following legal bases under UK GDPR:

We use your data specifically to:

• Notify you when MatchMyRead launches and when early access is available in your area
• Contact you about beta testing opportunities if you opted in
• Understand reading habits and preferences to inform how the product is built

We will never use your data for any other purpose without obtaining your explicit consent first.

4. What we do not do with your data

• We do not sell your personal data to any third party
• We do not share your personal data with advertisers or marketing partners
• We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling
• We do not transfer your data outside the UK or EEA without appropriate safeguards

5. How long we keep your data

We will retain your waitlist data until one of the following occurs — whichever is earliest:

• You request deletion of your data
• 12 months have passed since MatchMyRead launched and you have not become an active user
• We determine that MatchMyRead will not launch

If you become an active user of the MatchMyRead app, a separate privacy policy covering in-app data processing will apply and will be provided at that time.

6. Where your data is stored

Waitlist form submissions are currently processed and stored via Netlify, a third-party hosting and form processing service. Netlify is GDPR-compliant and processes data in accordance with standard contractual clauses. You can review Netlify's data processing terms at netlify.com/gdpr-ccpa.

We do not store your personal data on any other third-party platform at this stage without your knowledge.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Right of access — you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your data at any time
• Right to withdraw consent — you can withdraw your consent to being on the waitlist at any time
• Right to restrict processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data
• Right to data portability — you can ask for your data in a portable format
• Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests

8. Cookies and tracking

This website does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. We may use minimal analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they view. Any analytics used will be privacy-first and will not identify individual visitors.

No cookie consent banner is required because we do not use cookies that require consent under UK PECR.

9. Children's data

MatchMyRead is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at hello@matchmyread.com and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this notice

We may update this privacy notice as the product develops, particularly when the MatchMyRead app launches. Any material changes will be communicated to waitlist members by email before they take effect. The date at the top of this page reflects when the notice was last updated.
